Viking Ships Custom Soap - Gokstad Bedhead April 27 2016

This is one of my favourite custom projects so far - A stamped soap for the Viking ships house in Oslo. The ships are amazing, but I'm always drawn to the other stuff that was found alongside the ships in the burial mounds. There are all sorts of fabulous things, from sleds to shoes. A bed that was buried with the Gokstad ship has the most beautiful carved horses heads...

New Beech Soap Dishes April 26 2016

The first soap dishes I had made were oak.  They looked stunning. Then we found out that oak has lots of tannins that meant the dishes were going black quite fast. It didn't look great so we started to experiment with other types of wood. Arvis has now made the second generation dishes from beech, which has such a beautiful warm colour and is holding up really well in our...

Astrup Soap for KODE Kunstmuseene in Bergen April 15 2016

Recently I've had the pleasure of working on a soap especially for KODE kunstmuseene in Bergen. They are having an exhibition of Nikolai Astrup paintings and wanted a soap to sell in the gift shop to celebrate this. It was fantastic fun because so many of Astrup's paintings were inspiring. Gorgeous colours, and a level of abstraction that fits well with trying to create art using soap! I chose to go with...

New packaging images September 11 2015

I've just received some great new images of the soap packaging. This is my favourite:

Competition time - Name a soap! September 08 2015

I need a great name for the Gold, Frankincense and Myrrh soap I'm making for christmas. If you suggest one and I like it then the soap will be named as such and I will send you a couple of bars to say thanks. (Last year I called it Tre Konger (three kings) but the other day I was informed by the Mother-in-law that "Tre Konger doesn't mean anything in...

How I filter beeswax ready for lip balms August 06 2015

I'm feeling like an alchemist today - I've been filtering the raw beeswax given to me by Anita at Nordre Bergan Gård in Sandefjord, ready to use in my new lip balms. The massive chunk of wax was full of pollen and grit and (dare I say it) bits of bee wing, but with each progressive melting and filtering it is becoming more golden and perfect, and it smells unbelievably gorgeous.  I've used...

New stockist - Oslo museum of Contemporary Art March 28 2015

Are you visiting Oslo? You can find my soap in the Oslo Museum of Contemporary Art. Currently they are running a very interesting exhibition of an art movement from the 70s and 80s called Poor Art, where the artists used all sorts of everyday cast off objects to make art.  I was really lucky because I had a guided tour the day before the exhibition opened when none else was...

Northern inspirations March 17 2015

Our family trip to the north of Norway was very inspiring - such amazing landscapes. I came back with loads of new soap design ideas, but had to start with the northern lights. I attempted to create wispy streak of green on a dark sky by using the 'in the pot' swirl technique.  The top looks good but inside the colours were too defined and the green too opaque to look...

New stockist in Bodø - Smak & Behag March 02 2015

I'm so happy to announce that now you can buy Yager & May soap in the fabulous Smak & Behag in City Nord, Bodø. I was on holiday last week, travelling on the Hurtigruten which stops in Bodø for 3 hours. Just long enough to nip over to see Lene and show her the soap. If you are in Bodø try to go and meet Lene and Einar, two of...
